I was sweating profusely, crammed in my bathroom with my dad, mom, my brother & Lobo. (He was still a puppy then, a big puppy.)

I heard the wind howling ferociously outside the building while our front door kept being slammed as if a deranged man was trying to forcefully break in.

I heard our upstairs neighbor running back and forth in her apartment, moving furniture, looking for cover, running away from breaking windows.

I heard my bedroom window break.

And then it was all over.

I found a piece of roof tile in my bedroom and a hole on my window pane. Somehow the glass didn’t shatter completely. We had a piece of cardboard covering up that window pane for a couple of months, before they finally got around to replacing the glass. It was the only part of our bedroom window without the X-mark left by the duct tape we had placed over it. It was the only window pane in our whole apartment without an X-mark on it.

Every time I see that mark on a window, I think of Andrew. Yeah, I still see those here and there.

I can’t believe that was 17 years ago.

Liz Tracy (better known around these parts as the person behind Miami, Bro) has a nice write up on NBCMiami about a book highlighting Miami street art, previously seen here.

This is a song that was supposed to be part of The Roots’ last album, Rising Down. If I remember correctly, the story is that it was not included because they failed to clear a sample that was used in the track. Also, considering that this was one of The Roots’ grittier sounding albums, something has to be said about it not fitting within its continuity. (Although it was included in the European release.)

Tis a great song nonetheless.

the systematic dismantling of this country

August 13, 2009

I don’t think anyone is debating whether conservatives don’t have valid points and concerns, it’s a matter of fact that there will always be people that favor a more conservative approach over a liberal one and vice-versa. The problem lies with people showing up to these debates only to scream their lungs out and cry afoul about absurdities such as losing their country. If anything, I find it maddening that politicians would foment these wild and disruptive antics that overshadow potentially informative discourse just because they will be on the losing end of the stick (maybe if they were actually trying to prove a point, but a lot of these people are clueless).

Yes, it might be tough for some to deal with, but there is a democratically elected democrat majority in both the house and the senate, and a democratically elected president in charge, who happens to belong to the same party, and they’ve decided to work on health care.

eclecticTix are going from $32 to $60 via the Arsht Center. I’m still not exactly sure whether I’m gonna make it or not.
